They are durable, fairly reliable semis, if the price is good your should do fine with one - although the .44 mag is by no means a 250 yard cartridge - unless you are just trying to hit steel plates at a rifle range.
A friend has one and it is fun to shoot, fairly accurate for the design ( 3" at 100 yards with a scope ) and the .44 isn't hard kicking in a carbine at all.
