If you want a pistol tha can grow with you as our shooting skills improve, get the Ruger. Even if you want to keep it a plinker/practice gun, get the Ruger. Another option is the Browning Buckmark if you can find one.
People seem to like the NEOS which is a strange looking pistol, but usually a bit less expensive than the Ruger and Buckmark.
