The spacer ring is the thickness of the difference between Special and Magnum brass, 0.135" for .38-.357, 0.125" for .44 Spl - Mag.; and is used so you don't have to fiddle with the lockring to change the expander and seating dies. (Assuming you load the same bullet for both.) The sizer does not need the spacer and it does not need to be run through twice. Load 'em up.
(Was this not in the die instructions?)
