Pogo, I like the textured background. It adds more dimension to it than just a plain, solid, background.

I'm thinking about a set of Ahrend's cocobolo's for some revolvers as well. How do the smooth ones feel? Are they at all slippery (the main reason I am hesitant to put smooth wood grips on a defensive firearm) or is there a bit of texture to them?
Thanks for your comment. The blue textured background is some cloth I bought at a fabric store to use for background. I have tried different materials and think a light blue woven cloth with visible "grain" looks the best.

I like smooth wooden grips with finger grooves because your hand can maintain a firm grip by locking into the finger grooves. I don't think you really need checkering as long as you have finger grooves, and the grain of the wood shows up better with no checkering.

I like Ahrends grips very much for their graceful shape, high quality wood and good feel in my hand. I buy them from a dealer named D&J Gun Repair:

I also have some on an old S&W model 27 revolver, in cordia wood.
