Every year around Deer season (at least in my area) Dick's sporting goods has a sale on Marlin 30-30's for under $400. But if you still want the Rossi or are looking at caliber first, the 44 mag might suit your needs a little better. If you planned on doing a little more deer hunting than target I would lean toward the 45-70 or 30-30.
