The 38 Super is a semi-rimmed cartridge and the 9x23 is basically the same thing in a rimless design. Supposedly the semi rim of the super causes problems and the newer rimless cartridges(9x23, super comp etc..) are supposed to solve them. It actually has allot more to do with it than that but it seems to make sense so people buy it. If your gun is properly built by someone who knows what they are doing, there are no problems using the super cartridge.
I had my .38 Super race gun built by Wayne Berquist in Florida a few years ago and I don't have any problems with it, it shoots great.
