As you know, I'm a clay buster and don't own a fighting shotgun -- when something goes bump in the night I prefer a handgun. IIRC, those with real fighting shotgun savvy, like my friend Scattergun Bob, seem to concur that CRUISER READY (Pump Shotgun: Full magazine, chamber empty, hammer down, safety off) is the preferred ready condition for a HD gun.
