Here in Nebraska, the .44 Magnum in a rifle is illegal for deer (900 ft.lbs. at 100 yards minimum). Handguns in .44 are legal, because the minimum is 400 ft.lbs. at 50 yards. You get goofy laws like this when you try to replace common sense and hunter ethics with regulations.

My only preference is that I like the Ruger Redhawk better than the Ruger Super Redhawk. The Redhawk is more than strong enough for the .44 Magnum, and lighter and more graceful. This is just a personal opinion, some might like the Super Redhawk's bulk to help control recoil and easier to mount a scope on some models. I like my pistols to weigh considerably less than my rifles.

As far as other brands or single or double action, it would be hard to pick a bad one, or one clearly superior to the others, so this is a case where you pick out whichever one takes your fancy.
