A good thing to do is try several brands of buck and slug and see which one seems to pattern best with your particular gun and barrel. The Federal Tactical 00 Buck seems to pattern tight and consistent in most guns. It is in use by many law enforcement agencies that are knowledgable in those areas.
As to slugs, try 5 or 10 rounds of a few and see how it groups at the distance you anticipate.
