Way too much magnification for any shooting I do on any regular basis, whether for target shooting or hunting.

A 4-12x does everything I need it to do inside 150 yards, and likely farther than that but I don't have enough open space to be able to shoot much farther than that. It is spring time here, I walk outside and the woods are a wall of green.

Personally If I was going to use a fixed power I would be frustrated by anything more than 4x. I like having the variable power for when I need more magnification.
