I've tried leather thongs on mine with limited success.
The problem I had was that while unholstering in a match on the clock, sometimes the leather would get pulled off and the lever would drop upon firing. No time to dig the thong out of the holster and put it back on.
Once the thong even blocked the gun going all the way back into the holster and that took time to clear as well.
However, for casual shooting, it should just fine, I keep the thongs with the guns and still use them in non competition shooting.
