This very topic is why I stick with Savage actions for building. No reamer required. I had a wild hair back in the day and wanted to build off of a 700 action. From what I looked into back then, it wouldn't take much more money to just buy the reamer. While a little more money (not too much IIRC), I would be able to have and hold the reamer even though there's a chance that I would never use it again. Not to mention the fact that you're getting a new reamer that you know isn't damaged and will cut a smooth chamber. I could buy a reamer for 75 to 80 bucks back then (before shipping, etc.). Now I see that they're 130+ bucks. If you can rent for 50 or 60 bucks I may would try it, so long as the company offers a garuantee on the quality of the reamer.
