Busted by Goats on my coyote hunt:
The wind finally stoped blowing 50 mph yesterday, so i left work early to try and call a few coyotes.
A few weeks ago i came upon spot not far from town that had loads of coyote sign and I figured this would be a good day to try and get a few furs. Upon ariving at the spot, I hid my truck and started hiking over the ridge to a calling position. About halfway there, I spooked a large herd of pronghorn as I came over a small rise. As the herd took off, two coyotes jumped up and ran over the hill.
I was busted. I began calling but never saw them again. So this leads to my question: What should I have done? Just left the area and come back latter? Will those coyotes now associate my call with me? Did I ruin this spot for the rest of the season or if I give it a few weeks, will these dogs forget and come into my call? I did not shoot at them.
Thanks.
