Definitely +1 on 7.62X54R.net.
I've done a lot of looking on the internet to find this out. the PU I own is a repro, but it is very convincing (I'm not sure it was made in '42, but it says it was). Here's a couple good things to look for that I've discovered:
the originals' crosshairs move opposed to the point of view. So instead of twisting the knobs on a repro (where the whole field of view moves and the crosshairs stay centered) an original will move the crosshairs out of the center.
Another- all of the originals seem to have "91/30" scribed into it on the back of the scope, underneath the hammer & sickle. all of the repro stuff has been painted on up by the front of the scope.
If anyone has more info, it would be greatly appreciated. these scope's origins are pretty elusive. I think i've got one of the weirdest - as I said, it has the hammer and sickle painted on up front, along with a serial and the date "1942". however, the FOV moves like a new scope... puzzling indeed...
