If you already have a Colt, then the next one I'd recommend would have the following if given to you as an important gift such as yours:
Forged frame, slide, barrel. Forged internal parts where it counts. Consistently has high praises of outstanding fit/finish. Consistently has great customer service when needed.
The verdict? A 2012 or newer Dan Wesson. They're packed with Ed Brown parts in several areas which makes other so-called good 1911 variant makers cry.
