12/28 or 5.5x.9 won't work if his gun is truly threaded at 12x24. I've never encountered a c&b revolver with coarse nipple threads. 24 tpi is the coarse standard for the #12 screw diameter; 28 tpi is the fine thread standard for that diameter and is by far more common.
Are you sure it's 12x24 and not 12x28?
