When mine was about to expire I got a letter in the mail. I was a college student at the time, so with as much moving as I did and the hassle of changing my address, I just let it expire. The nice thing about the C&R is that you don't have to keep your records for 20 years. In fact you don't have to keep them at all once it expires, though if you've sold some guns, it may be a good idea to.
