I was concerned about this so I called Ruger. I discussed the issue in depth with a customer service representative who went to find someone in the building with precise SP101 design knowledge. I was on hold for a while but eventually got confirmation. There is no metallurgical difference and no structural difference aside from the tiny bit of extra metal in question.
