I think once-fired are best because they already have been crimped by the factory and will take a homespun crimp better. If they bwere never-fired there'd be no crimp for your reloader to lock onto in order to remake a perfect crimp. You might get a less-then-perfect crimp if your little home reloader tries to invent a factory-perfect-made-on-expensive-equipment crimp like you get from the manufacturer.
