I agree with the Bushnell Elite scopes recommended by sholling. I had have an Elite 4000 6x24 scope on a Remington 700 bench rest gun that I've had for many years. My Elite was made when the line was manufactured by Bausch & Lomb, but I think they are still exactly the same now that they are being made by Bushnell. In fact, Bushnell added the rainguard feature when they took over the line.

One of my good friends has a bench rest gun similar to mine but he put a Leupold 6x24 scope on his that cost 3 times what the Elite cost. There have been many times thru the years where he couldn't shoot late in the day at our favorite range because stray sunlight was causing him sighting problems that I was not having with the Elite.

I'm not saying to look at 6x24 scopes because that would be overkill for a hunting rifle but the line has some nice scopes in the 3x9 or 3x10 range. Something like this: http://www.shopbushnell.com/detail/BSN+423944M

Good luck and good hunting
