While alot can be learned by reading, it is pale in comparison to real world experence. I would really like to build a 12 bore rifle from a Winchester model 12 but I cant find anyone who will build a custom rifled barrel. That being said I have only shot one animal with a 12 guage slug. It was a yearling mule deer that had been hit by a car and needed a humane death. I shot her a 3' between the eyes. She didnt even blink. There was a 3/4" hole leaking blood but absolutely no reaction to the shot. She needed a second shot. So much for the awesome knockdown power od 3100 foot pounds of energy. That being said this is only ONE experence. I would really like to aquire more field experence with a 12 guage slug. Maybe someday.
