Will X39 do the job, yes.
Are there better calibers with more energy, a longer point blank range, and flatter trajectory, yes.
Note that X39 has less power than .30-30, and neither are much known for flat trajectory or range. As a woodland short range gun, they do. Anything over 300 yards and substantial bullet drop is an issue. Stepping up to a slightly smaller caliber with higher speed will flatten the trajectory and extend range.
Do I hunt with a .30-30, yes, but the AR15 is almost finished, and I'll use it from now on. It will use .270 bullets in an AR compatible length case, and has 40% more power than 5.56, flatter trajectory than .30-30, and longer range. It'll do.
