They will ask you what type of permit you are after. I believe the choices currently available in the eastern towns are: sportsman, business, and retired law enforcement officer. From the choices, it seems unlikely that a full carry will be possible. If you were in the one of the western towns, an unrestricted carry would definitely be impossible; in the eastern towns, I've heard some say that it comes down to who you know--but I'm sure they're hard, if not impossible, to get.
I wasn't asked by SCPD why I wanted my permit, but you might be. Perhaps others here can chime in on how to answer. On other state's CCW applications, I have always answered "all legal purposes." But--not sure what they would want to hear out here. Target shooting and hunting would likely be a good answer when applying for a sportsmans permit.
