My first thought was a CZ, but then I was thinking about how long the reach is for the trigger in DA mode. Then I read later that you wanted something thicker than a G19. Hmmm CZ75B could do it.

I like the copy I have: Magnum Research Baby Eagle.

Ruger P95 is pretty reliable, and will save you some money.

Everyone else has recommended a LOT of good stuff for your needs.

I think that another question that you'll have to decide is what type of action: Striker, SA, DAO, or DA/SA? That will help to narrow your choices.

I personally like my Hi Power more than any other 9 I have or have shot, but the CZ holds more rounds with factory mags [unless maryland is like california and has a 10 round max].
