I've fought that battle before, and I contend that since Colt has referred to the .45 Colt as the .45 Long Colt, that nomenclature has more than a little bit of legitimacy to it.

S&W has never referred to the .32 S&W as that, just as they have never referred to the .38 S&W as the .38 S&W Short.
