Some of the guns made it across the Atlantic. Technically, Claxton was acquitted of smuggling guns to the IRA, but convicted of the lesser charge of smuggling guns to Ireland. The prosecution couldn't make the IRA connection stick; he said he was doing to help plain folk defend themselves.

Not that that means anything one way or the other about whether he actually DID smuggle guns to the IRA.
