Going only by my FAL, I had one mag loaded for 20 years, all 20 rounds. It was the first fired at the range a few years ago and all went swimmingly. I suspect it depends on the rifle type and mags.

Most of my mags are empty. I keep one FAL mag loaded and one AR mag loaded.
