It doesn't take much to create an echo. I've created one off fairly distant mountains with a paintball gun (it was an old gun with an unported brass barrel). To create the best echo you want it focused downrange. So no porting, muzzle brakes, etc. You want it all coming out of the barrel and following the bullet.
