My most accurate handgun is my Super Red Hawk 9" bbl 44 mag. At 50 yards I can shoot 6 rounds (free-hand) into a 3" group, using 300 grain hardcast loads. I use a weaver 2x scope. The scope did not make me more accurate on paper targets, but I am better able to see in poor light.
