A chip in the bar should not cause it to break, especially if your gunsmith said it would be OK. There is plenty of meat in the bar on the 1100. Why worry. If it should happen to break then replace it. The only exception to this might be if it is the firearm that you keep around the house for self protection. In that case you may wish to replace it just for your piece of mind if nothing else. Good Shooting-John K
