Here is my issue. I have a Savage Varmint 308 and the throat is very shallow. I have been doing a load work up with 175MK. The problem, I think, is that when I seat the bullet deep enough to get the bullet out of the lands, it is past the neck-shoulder transition. I am using Lapua brass and I am afraid I have a donut issue. 60 percent of the groups are sub 1/2", while the others a plagued with a flyer.
My options are try a lighter bullet to keep it out of that donut area. Someone also suggested that the domestic brass tends to not get donuts.
I pretty happy with my results, but the OCD is nagging me to fix the problem.
Any thoughts?
