I have one and although I haven't put a lot of rounds through it it hasn't hiccupped yet and seems to be pretty solid. I haven't heard or read of anyone saying anything bad about them. I'm sure there are better 1911's (some of them sure better be for the price) and there are some that are worse but this one seems to be exactly what it is sold as - a solid 1911 for the price. I bought one last year during the 1911-centenial craze for the same reason, it seemed like a nice 1911 to add to my collection for the price. Remington may not be known for making them but they are a quality firm for the rifles and shotguns they have made for a long time. I don't think they would have put out a lame 1911 that would hurt that reputation. They are also actively doing some upgrades to the first basic R1 model so they seem to be willing to keep prodicing them for a while yet.
