I understand what the OP is going through. My 226 was my first handgun and I got very used to the "Dot the i" sights. I have other guns now and I like three dot sights the least (XDm and CZ pcr); even less than my Ruger mk II all black sights. There's just something about lining them up vertically and spacing the front evenly that doesn't work for me.

However, I recently switched out my SIGs sights for green/green TFOs. Pretty nice at the range: bright in well lit conditions and bright at night. They work reasonably at 7-10 yards. I still wish there were tritium bar and dot sights. The exposed fiber optics don't bother me as the 226 is a range queen and backup home. I'm more likely to grab my XDm 45. For that I think I'm going to go with Trijicon orange/green HDs and see if the contrast helps. I have considered the XS sights.... Maybe one day.
