Dunno much about Ballistol...but I cotton flannel patch out my bores {whether shooting corrosive/non-corrorsive ammo} with Simple Green solution, or a 1/3 mixture of: Simple Green, hydrogen peroxide and rubbing alcohol --- brush out the bore with your favorite copper cleaner --- flush out the copper cleaner with Hoppes #9 patches, dry patch out; then oil down.
