I don't know about "best", but at the moment, this is what I'd get if they were actually available:

Dan Wesson "Guardian" - C-bob 1911 in 9mm

or

Tanfoglio Witness Hunter 6" SS in 10mm auto with $500 left over for ammo

or

RIA MicroMag .22TCM & 9mm combo 1911 with $800 left over for ammo

Yeah, the SW Perf. Ctr. 945 or 952 are uber-sweet, high-quality rigs, but dunno what they cost. Whoever said, I sure wouldn't get a plastic gun - x 100.
