The 'smiths who understand the Colt V spring actions and who can do good work on them are few and far between these days. They are a dying breed.

While you may find someone close, I would highly recommend you send it off to a shop who knows what they are doing rather than try to get it done locally and end up being dissatisfied.

To my knowledge, there are only a couple of places that are widely recommended to work on the Colt V spring actions: Cylinder & Slide and Pittsburg Handgun Headquarters (whom I think used to take all the outsourced work directly from Colt)
