The 10mm can shoot a heavier bullet at a higher velocity. This equates to a more severe wound on whatever you're shooting.

The .40 S&W can get you 90+% of what the 10mm does balistically with much cheaper ammo, less recoil, and greater magazine capacity. That is why it was created in the first place. The 10mm is better than even the .45 and .357 magnum balistically.
