It's all a matter of how your hands are shaped and what you're used to. My first revolver was a S&W M28 that fit my large, long-fingered hands like a glove. I've become accustomed to the way a S&W sits in my hand, the way the cylinder latch operates, and the looks so that's my preference and S&W now dominates my revolver collection (I do own one Colt and one H&R, but the other three are S&W). I did, at one time, own a Ruger Redhawk which was a fine quality that was both accurate and reliable and, thanks to the previous owner's gunsmith, had a wonderful trigger. It never felt quite right in my hand though and I couldn't ever quite get used to the cylinder latch. It was eventually sold to my younger brother, whose first handgun was a Ruger Security Six, as Rugers are what he likes, what he is used to, and what fits his shorter-fingered hands better. The Redhawk was replaced in my collection with a 629 and all is right with the world now.
