When i first started carrying the only gun i had was a Smith 34-1 4". It was underpowered yes but i got my permit and figured it was better then a stick. For my self defence load i chose the 40gr minimag round nose. Most hollow points i had fired in ballistic tests from .22 handguns had very poor penetration. Sometimes less then 5 inches in gel. The round nose may not expand but i trusted it to dig much deeper in a would be murderer, allowing for a better chance at hitting vital organs. Just my 2 cents.
