With modern hollow-points, those three calibers are all basically the same when it comes to effectiveness on the human body. What matters most by far is shot placement. So pick the one you shoot best and can afford to practice with the most.
As far as recoil, the 9mm is a little snappy, the .40 is noticeably snappier, and the .45 is more like a strong push.
