Magnum, the illumination is an on/off thing, not a constant on. When it is off, you have a standard black reticle (the reticle style that you choose, obviosuly).
The only advantage to them is if you are shooting in low light.
And the illumination doesn't add anything to snag, what Nightforce did was make it so if you pull the side focus knob out, you get illumination. If you leave it alone, then you don't get anything except a black reticle
