I'd skip the compensator and just go straight to a suppressor, if it were legal in my state. You get the recoil reduction similar to a compensator/brake and also significantly less noise and muzzle flash. .45acp is great for suppressing due to it's subsonic nature.

For a 1911 I consider a suppressor to be the 'best muzzle device' for the reasons above. IMO.
