While I don't believe they would work with the adaptor mentioned above, Magpul's MOE handguards are a relatively simple and cost effective yet highly adaptable handguard option.

You can find the carbine length handguards for around $30, and they are a simple drop in part that requires no fitting or special tools. You can also buy a number of accesories such as pics tinny rail sections, flashlight mounts, forward grips, and sling attachment points to help configure it the way you want. A short rail section mounted at the 6 o'clock position on the MOE handguard would allow you to mount most bipods.
