According to my S&W book 29-4 engineering change started in 1988 and the 29-5 started in 1990. So it looks like 1988 or 1989 ...on your gun.

The price sounds fair on a blued gun.

I like the model 29 in an 8 3/8" barrel ( or the 6" barrel ) ...
