If you are talking about bare minimum essentials:
1) A 9mm pistol (CCW, home defense)
2) 12 gauge shotgun (home defense, hunting)
3) Bolt action rifle .30-06 or .308 (large game hunting)
You can do 90% of all firearms related activities with these 3 weapons.
