I'll second the Winchester 1400. I bought a ranger model 20 gauge in 1988 or 1989 to hunt doves with while I was in the Navy. Damn thing was so inconsistent and unreliable about all you could count on was the first shot. But somedays it would run without a problem (using the same factory ammo??) It was really too bad becuse the gun balanced and swung well(from what I can remember). It could have been great.
