I think giving it to your oldest niece for her 18th is the way to go. No cost, it stays in the family, and it will p off some anti-gunners. Restoring a $400 rifle for $250 doesn't sound like a great move.

I used to love being able to hit hard at 1000 yards. As I get older I find hitting a mini ram at 200 yards with the 22 oddly more satisfying.
