I've used IMR4227 in .357mag, .44 mag and .460 S&W. It is my preferred powder in .460 so I would assume it would work well in .454. It really shines in the .357 and .44 carbines. It may not give you the fastest velocities, but for me it's very accurate and is less temperature sensitive than H110/W296. One of my favorite plinkin' loads for the .357 revolvers/carbines is IMR4227.
