I don't believe enough S&W 1000's were made to warrant an aftermarket scope mount maker to tool up for it.

AFAIK, most adapt a mount for a similarly-shaped gun (like the Remington 1100).

I would WAG that "bubba" misaligned the scope mount base during installation, or (alternately) just slapped on a mount meant for a different shotgun, thinking it would be correct for the S&W M1000.

If the existing mount utilizes the trigger group retention crosspin holes to anchor the base, perhaps the front mount hole in the base could be redrilled higher than it is now, or the rear hole redrilled a bit lower.
(the existing hole may need to be welded or heli-arced closed in order to redrill the base)
