That would be true for me, I haven't used gas checks for years and I have a mould (.358SWC) that is a gas check bullet design mould.

I wouldn't think you need gas checks for 44 Special. The velocity is low enough, leading shouldn't be a problem. The only thing that they might improve would be accuracy.
